In many countries around the world young people decide to leave their parents’ home once they finish school. They start living on their own or sharing a home with friends. Is this a positive or a negative development? Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples.

It is evident that in most places around the world, young people opt to live with their friends after schooling and leave the parent’s place. Although this scenario becomes a good training ground the young people developing independence, it can also pose consequences on their social being.

To start with, living away from home can train young people to become independent. They can learn to value money and budget what they can earn to sustain themselves. Being self-reliant is a good thing that these young people will develop through living away from people they are in close connection with. Also, emotional maturity can be develop through solving their own problems and facing their own fears without the need of comfort from the parents. Most importantly, young people are forced to develop good critical thinking skills through making wise decisions in their lives without the need for consultation from the parents. All in all, living away from home can progress to having an independent life, matured thinking and self-sustaining lifestyle for the young people.

On the contrary, living independently can cause some trouble for the young people especially on the part of their social being. In most cases, these young people feel the freedom after finishing school and the urge to be with friends rather than the parents. Living independently although helpful in some ways, can also foretell some negative effects. For instance, young people’s freedom can lead them to engage in unlikely things like drugs and alcohol in the absence of parental guidance. Pregnancy can also occur among young ladies due to overused of freedom by partying day and night, drinking alcohol and taking drugs are also common scenarios. Sadly as well, when young people start living with friends than families, the relationship between family members start to weaken and the parents are left without much to say when the children becomes independent and have a life of their own.

In conclusion, although living independently after school allow the young people to embrace independence and develop maturity, it can also affect emotional ties with the parents and can lead to some unlikely social behaviors if not used wisely.
