LARONG PINOY: TUMBANG PRESO (FALLEN PRISONER)

One of the native games in the Philippines played mostly by boys during childhood is TUMBANG PRESO or commonly known in English as “Fallen Prisoner”. This game can play with the empty can, which serve as the center of the game and the slipper (tsinelas) which is used to hit the can. And also a piece of chalk used as a marker. This game composed of five to ten players with one chosen as It or in Tagalog term is (taya).

The main objective to win the game of tumbang preso is to make the empty fall with the hit of the slipper. It is not only a game for fun but also it is an outdoor game that has physical and intellectual health benefits. This native game also promotes and enhances the kids to develop their socialization and teamwork to other kids. It is played on a narrow streets or sidewalk.

How to play Tumbang Preso (Fallen Prisoner)?

1. The taya (IT) will guard the empty can, the taya (IT) chosen by all the players throwing the pamato (slipper) to the toe line. The one who throws the farthest from the toe line becomes the taya (IT). 

2.The taya (IT) will be the one who give a signal to start the game. He will make the empty can stand and put a mark using a chalk.

3. The other players except the taya (IT) will forming a circle around the taya (IT). The players can start hitting the empty can using the pamato (slipper), which is guarded by the taya (IT). Th player which his slipper got by the taya (IT) will be the next taya.

4.The empty can may be kicked or knocked down under when it is outside the circle or with the absence of the taya (IT).
