In learning Tagalog Grammar one of the most commonly used in a day to day conversation is using modal verbs. Modal verbs in Tagalog are known as “pandiwang panghinaharap” which is used to indicate possibility, necessity and asking permission in an action in any situation. Some of the commonly used Tagalog modal verbs are “kailangan”, “dapat”, maaari” and “pwede”. These Tagalog modal verbs are used and need to observe as a citizen in following traffic lights symbol. Traffic light symbols are seen in any road which each light has function to control and make a safe traffic flow to avoid any accident. As a citizen is it necessary to know each function of traffic lights symbol and it is a citizen role to follow the rules and regulation for traffic lights. The colors of the traffic light has a function to follow, these colors are red, green and yellow. Pattern: Subject + Modal verb + ng + Predicate

1. Pwede

    Tagalog: Pwede ka ng tumawid.

    English: You can cross.

2.Dapat

    Tagalog: Dapat kang huminto.

    English: You should stop.

3. Maaari

    Tagalog: Maaari ka ng magpatuloy.

    English: You may continue.

4. Kailangan

    Tagalog: Ang sasakyan ay kailangang huminto.

    English: The vehicle must stop.
