In Iloilo City, Philippines, the Museum of Philippine Maritime History is tucked away on the ground level of the Iloilo Customs House. The 1916 construction of the neoclassical Iloilo Customs House. The structure functioned as a location and a record of Iloilo’s economic growth. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines rebuilt the Customs House in 2017 and 2021 in acknowledgment of its historical significance. On January 13, 2023, the commission opened the maritime museum in the City of Love, Iloilo City. Six galleries of the museum tell various stories about the rich marine history and culture of our country. Galleries will take us to various settings and viewpoints so we may fully appreciate our marine heritage. It is also important to note that the Philippines is the world’s largest supplier of sailors. The majority of graduates with expertise in maritime trade and navigation come from the Province of Iloilo. The museum honors the courageous Filipinos who traveled through our inland and international waters. There is no denying that Filipinos are skilled seafarers.
